This landscape was inspired by a trip to West Texas, where the skies are bigger than anywhere and the road seems to go on forever. Trees are sparse out there, though goats are popping up all over. The two just came together in my studio, where i took some liberties--
About the artist:
I grew up with a lot of freedom and outdoors to run around in, in Grand Rapids, Michigan (1960s). All my grandparents were immigrants so I grew up with an outsider's eyes. I'm interested in making art about life, not so much art about art.
Paying attention to experience has its own rewards, providing endless ideas for new art.
I lived in Hawaii for 10 years, and spent most of my time at the beach if not working the coolest day job ever (Reference librarian at Maui Community College). May never have gotten serious about making Art if my husband hadn't gotten a job in Austin. We moved here, I went to the Univ. of Texas for my BFA, and haven't stopped making Art since!

One of my goals is the successful integration of Idea, Process and Media (oil paint, printmaking, or collage).
When I think about possible images I think in terms of metaphors, mini-narratives.
Inspirations are everywhere, my own life or the larger world.
