Christopher A Rose AIA, ASID I have answered this previously if you look at my answers to the the questions I also describe size and other aspects. It is a custom mix of weathered fieldstone, thick and thin stack with Monterey Buff stone mixed in. An advantage of working with an architect we have custom mixed stone and have experience in pulling together colors to compliment your interior. Your stone mason can speak direct to Fieldstone Center to Matt Henderson 843-557-1225 or matth@fieldstonecenter.com.
COASTROAD Hearth & Patio The real key element to this room is dissolving the line between inside and outside with a full wall of glass. No window treatments. Just glass.
Not everyone is really comfortable with that approach, or has a piece of property where it is practical.
The second thing that makes this room remarkable is the basic geometry and pleasing patterns in the structure itself.
Another thing that is important is the use of bare, honest elements: visible steel, stained wood cladding and beams, the visible HVAC duct and the stone fireplace.
If you can design your new home keeping these elements in mind, the scale won't really matter so much. The simple honesty of the fireplace design will look good in any home.
Christopher A Rose AIA, ASID katin since you commented to a comment I did not receive your question. Use lots of glass and transoms. You could get a very similar effect eliminating the top windows which would bring down the ceiling to around 12 feet.
Who was the glass window/door supplier - WE are building a modern house like this and just got pricing in from Fleetwood, just curious if there is another supplier we should be looking at.
Thank you »

Building a lake house with a similar setup and cannot find lighting for the ceiling like you have? When looking for uplight sconces, nothing like these show up. Can you direct me on where you found this kind of lighting? »
Christopher A Rose AIA, ASID Yes contact Roland Gahafer, roland@allaboutwindowssc.com They provided the motorized shades and did a wonderful installation.
5. Use furniture and finishes to keep a human scale. The fireplace, seating arrangement and area rug provide an intimate setting in what is quite a large room with a tall ceiling. It's akin to the idea of gathering around the campfire in the wide open outdoors.
The great room features walls of glass on all sides. The steel frame structure, finished a dark gray, is exposed and evident in the much of the house. To minimize the amount of frame, the windows and doors were manufactured by Henselstone and imported from Germany. Sun control is achieved with built-in motorized shades.
The angle is more apparent inside. It is almost set perpendicular to the roofline. In the double-height space the chimney reads like a freestanding object, given the abundant glazing on either side.See more of this house
Expansive walls of glass blur the lines between indoors and out. Motorized shades provide privacy and shade when needed. Obviously, in a typical one-house-on-top-of-another beach community, living in a fishbowl would be less than ideal, but in this setting it works. The wood floors and ceiling, along with the tall stone fireplace, add warmth to the wide-open space.
loving the fireplace and the textured stone in contrast against other materials - also like the glassed one and one third glazed., our ceiling height would be that... too low??
Nice living space. Warm, open, airy, darker floors with full glass to a lighter wood ceiling. Vertical fire place is interesting but probably depends on room height.
