"The three day event is considered to be a complete test of courage, discipline, grace and endurance of both horse and rider. The origin of the modern event can be traced back to the Stockholm Olympics of 1912. It has changed little over the years with most changes having to do with whom could compete. Women were not included until 1961 and it wasn't until the 1920s that the general public and non com officers could compete. . Day one is devoted to Dressage, day two is endurance and cross country and the third and final day features show jumping. Riders have few places to kick back and relax between events. Most usually retreat to their trailers or tents that dot the event grounds. This atmospheric painting which was painted on site captures the sunlight streaming inthroughthetentsopenflappppp .. The sunlight sparkles the dust and cigarette smoke hanging in the air. A loose and painterly approach gives the painting a casual, relaxed mood which is what the artist was trying to capture. A special painting that would be treasured by any equestrian."
