Have a countertop like this but have a island built. Design bins that go under the counter that can pull out and hold things like flower, sugar etc.... Have smaller drawers to hold other things. Design is to have all things close in one space but not clutter by put out in the open

Freestanding island are great ways to get more counter space and more storage. if you don't have the room to float it in the middle of the kitchen, consider pushing it up against cabinets as a peninsula or up against a wall.
