Phinney Ridge Kitchen Remodel

The principal design goal of this remodel was to update, enhance and open up the tired, and barely functioning kitchen in this Mid Century Phinney Ridge home.

We began opening up the space by removing the wall that separated the existing kitchen from the dining room and living room. We created a larger window at the sink, and eliminated other windows in order to maximize the space plan and the sweeping views. Appliances were relocated, and upper cabinets were kept to a minimum to help create an open and spacious effect. The young family's love for bold color was reflected in the cabinetry choices. We complimented the bright blue hues of the cabinetry with rich walnut wood and soft understated hues in the countertops, backsplash and flooring choices.

The secondary design challenge of this remodel was to use sustainable products and principles through out the design. We chose to use a cabinetry made in Washington State, backsplash tile made in Seattle, Squak Mountain Stone recycled countertops made in Seattle, marmoleum flooring, LED lighting; and a local woodworker created the butcher block in Ballard, just 2 miles away from the home.
