The ultimate display of geometrics is seen here in this checkerboard design by the architect Ron Herman. The inspiration came from moss and stone Zen temple gardens in Kyoto, Japan. Outstanding way to landscape slope - maybe on a smaller scale using rocks and alternating with something other than grass. Very unique maybe something like this between stairs and driveway, and if necessary where the big boulders are. If too linear for the house, a similar concept could be done with a more rounded shape.
