My clients love the function of the in counter compost system. The placement is between the trash & recycle cans (to the left in the corner) and the espresso machine (they are avid coffee drinkers). The compost bin makes emptying the coffee grinds easy. This kitchen has plenty of counter space so the countertop functionality is not compromised by the compost bin. Some clients are concerned of loosing counterspace in a small kitchen. But, keep in mind, these units are flush, so you could place a cutting board or tray right over the top with no problem.
This unit is the Hafele version and has a large rubber ring, which keeps it sealed. By looking at the photos of the Blanco, it has more stainless and less rubber. I always feel that stainless is cleaner than rubber....just my perception. You would want to look for one that fits nice and tight to avoid the little pesky fruit flys!
I personally have a compost bin that sits on the counter and it is constantly in the way in my small kitchen. It would be so much more functional for my space to have an in counter compost (as long as I had the cabinet space for it to drop into).
