Beds... - hi, I believe I have identical antique beds..they were my Grandmothers and my kids used them for years...I thru away the mattresses thinking I could replace them and then found out how the long thin mattresses used for these antiques are no longer something easy to find. where did you find them or were they custom and if so from what source please? I painted my bedroom wall behind my bed Hale Navy...funny I love that color! Thanks for your time . »
Two Ellie Hi! Is it a standard twin or is it an odd size? Ours is a standard twin. If its an odd size then you may have to go custom. The cheapest route is to get a piece of thick foam cut to needed size. I got our mattress at sticks and stuff years ago. They no longer have this particular one though I believe. The only problem we did come across is that today's mattresses are much thicker than the ones they used to use. A mattress + a box spring ended up covering up the whole head and foot board. Looked awful. In the end I only used the top mattress and had a hard piece of plywood cut to the frames size to act as a box spring. Made the proportions correct and is still quite comfortable. Hope that helps!
sprattliz thank you! yes, my twin railings are 73 inches long which means either a custom mattress or hire a welder. i guess i have to figure which is better; a custom mattress or reg mattress. i found a welder who will xharge me $25 a railing. so $100 to make into a standard. now i have to think about height too? oy...
After surviving the terrible twos, Coldiron decided it was time to redo KJ's room into an official "big boy" room. The bed is an antique she painted Benjamin Moore Hale Navy. IKEA bedding echos the stripes on a Pottery Barn Kids rug, while a vintage chair and dresser add unique points of personal interest.
Spool-turned furniture, commonly found in colonial farmhouses, can now be found in almost any style home. Its craftsmanship alone makes for both an interesting and functional design element.
