A new queen-sized, vinyl upholstered daybed makes a great place to lounge and hang out with friends. Antique chair and nightstand are painted for a fresher look. Vintage chrome lamp and new flokati rug enhance the retro feel of the room.

Where did you buy the mirrors next to the bed? - I love them »
Carla Aston | Interior Designer It was custom made. If you take the photo to an upholsterer, they could probably make you something similar. Generally, upholsterers do custom headboards like this.
Bed question - Is this bed a challenge to make in the morning? This might sound like an odd question, but it's a kid room, so wondered. THANKS, I love it! »
mdturner Yes. it can be a challenge if the bedding against the walls is pulled out. My son has a king sized bed in the corner like this. The less the bedding is messed up along the walls, the easier it is to make. The corner headboard is gorgeous and effective. I will now do this in my son's room. A king in a 12 by 12 room doesn't leave much choice but to position it in a corner so it is worth the bed-making challenge in my case.
Carla Aston | Interior Designer It was an old piece of furniture I found at a flea market and had painted. I did a lot of up-cycling on this project. Take a look at this post on my site to see where a lot of these furnishings came from. http://carlaaston.com/bedroom-design-project-064
Carla Aston | Interior Designer I did that through Unique Arts of Houston. They are a designer resource. If you'd like to buy it as is, let me know. I have all the records for that and I can get you price to buy it through my studio.
Carla Aston | Interior Designer The chair was an old antique frame I found in a shop in Bryan, TX. I had the frame painted and it was covered in a Thom Felicia fabric. See the "before" image at my blog, www.designinthewoods.blogspot.com. The post is called "Mixing Old and New at the Showhouse'. Thanks!
Carla Aston | Interior Designer This was custom made. I've been trying to find a manufacturer who would do these in quantity, but have had no luck yet. I've had lots of questions about it. A custom upholsterer should be able to reproduce this for you.
jococoj Thanks -- I am not familiar with Retrospect but will contact them. Would you be willing to shaer the specs or dimensions you used to have yours custome made? I appreciate it, thanks. Joanna
Letitia Holloway You can use any local upholstery company to do this.... just pick a fabric, show them this photo and they can copy the look. If you want a platform bed, you can mimic this also just using an inexpensive IKEA platform bed. Then the upholstered 3' or 4' high tufted panels can be made the same size as the side and end of the bed and attach them to the walls, above the baseboard.
Call an upholsterer for sure.... you probably know one. They are usually quick too.
Carla Aston | Interior Designer Sorry, I've missed these questions. Ceiling light is from Visual comfort Lighting, through Circa Lighting stores, sold in major cities nationwide. It's the Barbara Barry Simple Scallop pendant.
Hello,
I love this room and I am planning on using many ideas from this room in my daughter's room. I was wondering where the pillows on the bed are from?
Thanks!! »
The chrome vintage floor lamp repeats the shiny, reflective surface of the wall art and the photo frames lining the hallway. Repeating elements help to provide a cohesive look to this colorful bedroom.
Consider adding a headboard to each side that is against the wall. This will help the bed feel as if it’s in its proper place in the room’s layout while achieving the same softness as pillows.
18. Houzzers bookmarked this photo for the smart daybed design in the corner of a room. The corner headboard and pillows mean that the bed can serve as a couch during the day. Take off all the pillows at night, and you have a comfy place to curl up and sleep.
Of course, since she's been attending therapy regularly, Sally may be a bit more together this season. Maybe she'll even be ready to graduate from her room's signature rosy hue. This blue- and green-toned room has a bed with a more casual feel. Along with the armchair, it creates the perfect space to hang out with friends, without dividing the room up too much.
Get clever with your bed placement by pushing it into the corner; depending on your layout, it may improve the general flow of your space. This custom L-shape headboard keeps seating flexible and has a very sophisticated appeal.
Tucking the bed into a corner creates the sense of a big couch to sprawl on while leaving room for extra seating. "I wanted to create a cool transition for a teenager who wanted a bit of a studio-apartment-type feel," Aston says.
