A large center island with overhead skylight and windows overlooking the garden keep this kitchen bright and open as well as connected to the outdoors.

This home was featured on the CBS News Sunday Morning annual design program in the summer of 2010. This show included an interview with Sarah Susanka describing how this home incorporated ideas from her best selling book, "The Not So Big House." Bud Dietrich, AIA As a point of reference, the ceiling height in the photo is 8 feet. Are you working with an electrician or kitchen designer? If so, they should be able to give some guidance based on the specifics of your situation.

Interesting flow out the end into other rooms. Like the skylight and windows but not so hot on the work triangle. Don't like the range backsplash being a window (too much cleaning)

Love this kitchen. Windows overlooking the backyard, color of the wood, flooring, double ovens, microwave to where kids can get to it, informal dining seating (more seating when guests are over), and the lighting (skylight and task lighting). Only thing to add would be an extra sink.
