“The space itself was inspirational,” designer Charles Allem says of a penthouse he remade for a Manhattan couple. Silver leaf adds drama to the living room’s barrel-vaulted ceiling. Being my all time favorite designer, Charles Allem always brings a new dimension to glamour. He kept the walls a simple beige but draws your attention to the barrel ceiling with silver leafing.

Velvet has the potential to make a space feel truly opulent. A lot of the touches in this room do that (not to mention the impact of the piano) but the finishing touch here would have to be the velvet drapes. Long, lucscious and luxurious. I love them!

The modern tray ceiling is beautifully exemplified here. I love the pairing of a dramatic molding with a high, soaring ceiling, making the room feel even more spacious than it already is.

A high tray ceiling adds drama to this room. The colors are kept to a narrow palette to allow for the many details here, without overpowering. From the silver ceiling and piano, to the rough wall and patterned rug, this is a beautiful and elegant example of texture and shape coming into one great whole.

Interesting to add a metallic/reflective wall paper to ceiling to generate light/reflectivity. Don't know if i like this for the master, but interesting and nice in this room.

the crown moulding is so striking, with the modern fireplace..any advice on how to mix the modern with the more classic finishings? I love pillars, crown mouldings, etc, but I also love modern kitchens with clean lines. We are just about to sign off on our final drawings..need some advice fast:)!!!

Sexy and warm are the words that first pop into my head when I look at this room. The silver leaf on the barrel ceiling is a richly deserved focal point. The silver piano is an unexpected piece that Liberace would approve of.
