svmom - back in June, I wrote an ideabook about displaying collections (it's here:
http://www.houzz.com/ideabooks/3797/list/DIY-Projects--How-to-Display-a-Collection) and I searched for a good comic book display, but came up pretty empty.
I think it could be cool to pick some of your husbands favorites/the best looking covers and frame them in simple frames - similar to the way people frame record cases.
Or what about something along these lines - Ilove how this looks (though you might have to have it custom made):

guessing they are valuable..hence the the plastic packaging. What about a oversized shadow box frame, like 70x 48, you could layer in the comic books, overlapping them to create and interesting effect. Could be great in a modern/loftish dining room.

Pepecalderin, heatherdraper and kitpollard - thanks for you feedback. So here is the issue. There are literally a few thousand. Most have the plastic covering. What I would really like to visually see is a shelving unit or a unique way to store and display these books.
They are all in boxes and we are just starting to organize them by series.
Any suggestions?

So I think we have found a solution. We have an old "farmers cabinet" that we used for "extra storage". Last night, we cleared it out and are beginning to organize a few thousand comic books in there. We are tagging them first in an online catalog and will then organize them by series. There are four of us (kids included) working on this project.
I promise to upload and share pictures once this is done.
Wow... what a BIG and SURPRISING project! My husband use to collect comic books as a kid and has basically "forgotten" about it for thirty years. What a find! :)
