Bedroom

This is my bedroom in progress. The bed is a budget compromise that I have ended up being very happy with. It is simply a boxspring upholstered in a gray Pollack mohair velvet sourced from eBay. The fabric was normally $200+ a yard and I purchased it for $30/yd. Upholstering the boxspring ran $125. The headboard is wall mounted and custom made by Viesso in Santa Monica in the same fabric. The total cost of the bed came in a little over $1000 including fabric, tax, and delivery. That ended up being a substantial savings over similar european style beds I had my eye on. It's not Poliform or B&B Italia, but I am also not $5000 poorer!

la2000 The flooring is Flor carpet tiles in style " Toy Poodle" and colorway "Moo Moo Black", which is a muted dark, dark brown to my eye.

A blanket isn't the only way that you can add velvet to your bed. In this photo, the boxspring of the bed has actually been covered in a mohair velvet. This turns a regular boxspring into a much more luxurious piece of furniture and allows you to get away without a bed frame. Gorgeous!

I love a platform bed. The charcoal is a nice complement to black and softens it a bit. The bedside tables look like built-ins and it gives a nice clean look.

genius with the boxspring! I love it! I have have a low profile box i was going to throw out but I will upholster it and screw short block legs into the frame. Almost the exact platform bed i have been looking at for over 1K

There are, however, certain qualities and materials associated with a more masculine aesthetic. Things like flannel, leather and wool tend to evoke a manly vibe. As do colors like gray, black, brown and blue. Straight lines and hard edges read as masculine, as does an absence of bright colors.
