Neuhaus Design Architecture, P.C. The crown moulding in the picture is an original plaster cove moulding dating to the late 1880's when the house was constructed. Similar plaster profiles are manufactured today by companies such as Hyde Park and DecoCraft.
mseamm Would you recommend the colors you used here in this dining room photo for the color of wood in the photo of the middle parlor as well? It seems like the wood color in the middle parlor is close to what we have in our living room and dining room. We are working with a lot of wood (wainscoting, built ins, fireplace, etc.) and not that much paintable wall space. I've attached a photo after the wallpaper removal. I'm sorry I don't have a better photo at the moment of the wood. Thanks so much for your time!
Neuhaus Design Architecture, P.C. Hi Ann,
Stains come in a wide variety of shades, but a paint color that would be close to the very dark stain in the photo would be something like Benjamin Moore "Bittersweet Chocolate 2114-10.
Decore-ative Specialties Hi Ann we also have dark stains, paints, and glazes....you can see our entire collections of eco friendly finishes here http://www.decore.com/purecolors/
Thank you for your question. All of the windows in this room are stained glass. The reflection of one of the outside windows is in the mirror -- no window treatments.
With the exception of the kitchen addition, the majority of the work on the parlor level was restorative work — from the original trim and molding to the ornate leaded windows seen here.
Another Brooklyn renovation, completed by architect Kimberly Neuhaus in collaboration with homeowner Jessica Warren, balances respect for the home's history with modern life and high design. Large openings between rooms helps to share the light. Often times, townhouses will use glass paned pocket doors to separate rooms for just this reason.
This is a smart detail for this grandly scaled dining room. The addition of a clear and opaque stained glass transom supports the palette and the size of the room. Stained glass that features pattern and not color can be great for a neutral room that already boasts great architectural details.
