Cabinets - Thank you so much for your prompt reply, do you happen to know that name of the color? It's really beautiful, much softer than white would be. »
Neuhaus Design Architecture, P.C. We looked at several custom samples with the cabinetmaker so I don't really have a specific color name for you. However in paint colors, Benjamin Moore's OC-140 "Morning Dew" is very close. Goo luck with your project.
suzannekcole Thank you so much for the information, I hope my project looks half as nice as this beautiful kitchen. Hopefully for my next project I'll be able to hire your firm to do it for me.
Neuhaus Design Architecture, P.C. It is hard to tell from a photo. The cabinets are actually a grayish beige that we thought worked will with both the quartzite and the walnut frame.
Neuhaus Design Architecture, P.C. The underside of the upper cabinets are 2'-8" above the counter. They are quite high up but they work with the proportions of the space, and allow the stone slab backsplash to be really featured.
Neuhaus Design Architecture, P.C. The walls are painted in Benjamin Moore's Carrington Beige HC-93. It is nicely complimented by the ceiling and trim which were painted the same color: Ancient Ivory OC-133. These colors work really well with the amount of natural light that fills the space.
I adore this kitchen! - Do you have any more photos of this kitchen taken from the windows looking towards the fridge? I would love to see some others if you have some. Thank you. »
cluksay Thank you so much for your quick reply. Would you happen to know the width of the walnut wood trim that frames the cabinetry, in addition to the walnut trim below the countertop? Thank you for taking the time to answer my question. Kind regards.
Neuhaus Design Architecture, P.C. Precise dimensions and details are best worked out in conjunction with your own architect or designer as those will vary based on the scale of the room and the scale of the cabinetry. In this case the trim is 3" wide above and 2" wide below, but keep in mind that the ceiling height in this room nearly 16' at its highest point and the windows are over 8' tall.
Neuhaus Design Architecture, P.C. Our stone supplier here in the US considers this stone to be a quartzite. In the US I have seen it called Luce di Luna, White Moon, and Quartzite Bianca. Quartzite is a bit less porous than a marble, and therefore better suited to use in a kitchen. Sealing it well is key, as is the case with any stone used in a kitchen, but even well sealed you have to be prepared for the fact that it will develop a patina of etching and stains over time.
I am designing an open kitchen with an island in the middle that is opened to the living room. The electric stove has to be in the island, there is no other space in the kitchen area. What can I do with the food vapor, odor, etc. if there is no way for me to install a hood that absorbs these elements? »
Anthony Giunta Jr. If there is space beneath the floor under your island for a vent duct then look into cooktops with down draft vent. This pulls the fumes down.
What materials are used for the cupboard doors and the wood framing the kitchen? is the backsplash the same material as the island? And lastly, what exhaust fan is used as I would also like to hide the fan behind a cupboard door? »
Thank you for your question. The cabinets are lacquered and walnut veneer and, as answered by others, the counters and backsplash are luce de luna quartzite.
Neuhaus Design Architecture, P.C. The countertop is a white quartzite. It seems to go by different names from different suppliers. We sourced it from Stone Source and they call it "Luce di Luna."
The kitchen itself is a host of all things modern, while the curved weight-and-chain windows maintain a connection to the past. “Towards the end of the project we had winter meetings sitting at the kitchen table in the apse of the space, and when it snows it feels a bit like you are sitting inside a snow globe,” Neuhaus says.
