The owners of this condominium wanted to transform their outdated bathrooms into spa-like retreats. The concept was to create a soothing and timeless design while maintaining the existing footprint of the current bathrooms. Existing structural columns and plumbing stack locations were integrated into the design.
Continuity between the bathrooms was important and was created by using similar materials in each bathroom - Spanish marble on the floors and walls, and quarter sawn walnut for the custom floating vanities. Design interest was created with glass tiles - 1x8 glass mosaic tiles in the master bath and 4x12 glass tiles in the guest bath. Minimalist, square trimless down lighting was used throughout. Contemporary and energy efficient perimeter cove lighting creates a floating ceiling plane while highlighting the tile walls in soft light.
Custom designed floor-to-ceiling cabinetry provides ample storage and an open display niche in the master bathroom. The design of the bathrooms achieves the look and feel of a luxury hotel with functionality and comfort for daily enjoyment.

Do these doors open from the middle as two separate doors or is it one door that accordions to one side? »
dSPACE Studio Ltd We don't have the model number to post, but we used Hafele pivot door hardware on this project. Thank you for your question and good luck with your project!

dSPACE Studio Ltd These are custom wood doors using black american walnut and acid etched glass panels. If you do not want to go the custom route, Trustile has a line of doors with acid etched panels that would achieve a similar look. Thank you for your question and good luck with your project!

dSPACE Studio Ltd Thank you! These are the square, trimless downlights from Element Lighting. We love the square profile and the seamless integration into the ceiling with these lights. Compliment - I don't have a question, but I wanted to tell you that this is one of the most beautiful bathroom designs I've ever seen. Very nice job! »
dSPACE Studio Ltd Thank you for your comment. We used a Spanish Marble called Nublado from Stone Source USA. Tile size is 12x24. Nublado has great linear movement and the character markings of natural stone. The price is reasonable. Good luck with your project - dSPACE Studio Architecture www.dspacestudio.com
We have a few contractors that we can recommend in Chicago. Please send us an e-mail at info@dspacestudio.com and we are happy to provide you with recommendations if you still need them.
Anne,
To answer your question, these are custom doors, but you can get a set of french doors to be swinging doors and primed for paint instead of using a stain grade walnut. You would need to get pricing from the contractor or millworker that you are using on the project.
As for the closet that is 5 feet wide, you may be able install two french doors to replace your bifold doors. Each door leaf would be 2'-6, and as long as you have the clearance for the door swing, this would provide you with a nice open closet when both doors are open.
Thank you for all of the great questions and good luck with your projects! dSPACE Studio's portfolio of work can been seen at www.dspacestudio.com
Bifold doors are an option you don't see very often. When people think about those, they usually picture those louvered ones hiding laundry facilities. But these beautiful wood and frosted-glass bifold doors are a great way to minimize the space taken up by a door that swings its full width into a room. These take up half the space when folded.
