Another option is to build out stucco planters from your patio walls. More work than a container and not sure. What to do about drainage, but another option, especially back in the bocci ball court area.

love this space... beautiful gate, stone and fountain. the use of color on the fountain adds energy to the space. love the color of the stucco next to the wonderful weathered gate with metal accents.
