Since the photograph does not show where the light fixture is mounted to the ceiling, it is difficult to tell if this is one light or a few or many. Anyways, Bocci lighting makes multiple versions of all of those, so I feel that any would work great. here is a link to several of those light fixtures.
what if you closed off the side of the kitchen by the basement door and the entryway and put a hallway with built-in storage along the current back wall between the kitchen & bathroom? Would leave room for a u-shape w/island like this.
