Need help with kitchen floor tile ideas - We are doing over small kitchen in our 1922 bungalow. Blue -gray walls, off- white cabinets, black granite counters. Want to go with a light color. »
Dresser Homes I would do hardwood floors in the kitchen as they are easier on the feet, easier to keep clean, and less expensive than tile. But if you really want to do tile, I would look to some of the ceramic products that look very close to marble or stone. Maybe something that looks like white carerra marble.
Good luck!

Dresser Homes Sorry, I don't know the source. I believe they were provided by my client's designer. Here is a link to her website. Maybe you can track them down that way. http://www.gilstrapedwards.com/ Gary Dresser

Dresser Homes @chicken73: The particular flooring subcontractor I used for this job is no longer in business. This photo is from 5-6 years ago. If you are looking for a hardwood flooring company in your area, it should be fairly easy to find someone to do 5" oak floors. Gary Dresser Dresser Homes
What is the size of this room? - We are about to re-do and add on to our existing sun room and we are looking to add a fireplace and mount the tv above. Our room is 12x18 with the same look as this picture. We would like to put the fireplace on the opposite wall that currently goes onto a screened in porch, but will be where we add on a kids play (bonus room) room. Any suggestions on best layout? Hope this makes sense. »
patricia008 Thank you Gary. I'm going to go with the Crema Marfil. I thought it might be a bit light against the white fireplace, but I think it is a great clean and classic look that is neutral enough pair with anything.
Dresser Homes The floors were sanded and finished on site. They are 5" red oak stained with a blend of 50% special walnut and 50% dark walnut (Minwax)

Re: Duluting the paint - You had indicted that the wall paint was duluted by 50%. I've never duluted paint. Is it duluted with water or another product and if so the name of the product. Also, why is it duluted? Sorry for all the questions, but I'm a novice. Thanks so much for your patience! »
Cynthia Taylor-Luce Diluted is referring to the intensity, i.e. the pigments added to colour the base. When you dilute a paint colour by 50% it means you are adding half the amount of pigments that are associated with that colour. So if a colour requires 4 drops of red and 2 drops of black, then a 50% version of it would have 2 drops of red and 1 of black.
Dresser Homes It really depends upon the height of the doors and windows in the room. If they are at 6'8" or 7'0", then I think it would work fine. If they are 8', I think the coffered ceiling would look crammed down upon the casing above the doors/windows. I believe these beams are something like 10" deep, but you could make them as shallow as 4" - 6" and that would help also.
Dear Dresser Home,
Was this a pre-finished flooring or custome stained. I really like the colour and that it has no yellow/orange tinge. Could you specify the the wood type and stain used. Thank you »

ccwatters Gary-Just had to say thank you for giving the specifics (twice!) of the floor. So many designers come up short when asked about the specific stain and species combination, and it is such a critical element of a room! Love that floor, and gorgeous room....so elegant, but warm and inviting too!
Do you know a source for exterior fiberglass french doors with both exterior and interior muttons?? I love the look of wood but we live in Florida and we are told they will warp and need repair for years. Thank you »
Dresser Homes I really have never used fiberglass doors. While yes, they are more durable than wood, my clients tend to like the look and feel (and imperfections) of a real wood door. If they are properly installed and not left unpainted very long, you should be able to prevent any warping. The size and wood species is also a big variable. An 8' door is more likely to warp than a 6'8" door. Pine is more volatile than Mahogany. Also, doors with a three-point locking mechanism, which secure the top, middle, and bottom are a good way of keeping the doors from warping.
Good luck!
I would love to know the dimensions of this room. Especially the width of the far wall. And since I can't see where the room ends, just knowing the length from far wall to second door wall. Thanks! »
Hello,
I really like what you have done with this ceiling treatment.
Please share with me the size beams and crown moldings
that were necessary to achieve this look.
Thank you,
Phyllis Kane »
Dresser Homes The box beams are 1x10 on the sides and 1x8 on the bottom. The crown is either a 3" or 4" cove crown. If you show the picture to your builder, they should be able to replicate it pretty easily.
Good luck!
