Refreshing a tired kitchen

AFTER. Fresh paint on the walls and ceiling, where a semi-gloss bounces lighting around, were the beginning of this make-over. We painted the upper cabinets the same as the wall so they receed, and the lower cabinets are darker; with the new stone countertops, a strong horizontal line is created, making the kitchen seem larger. Note the added cabinet that now encloses trash and recycling bins. We added a beefy crown to the upper cabinets with Zenon lighting strips to wash the ceiling and provide amibient light. New iron hardware gives a "brand new" feeling to the old cabinets. Pendant lights over the island are good task lighting; new under-cabinet lighting is a great improvement.
