Is the tile a natural stone? - I think that it is imperative to the design of the floor to match the shine of the finished hardwood.
How do you get that shine out of the tile? »

BeautifulRemodel.com @House Flipper - most stone tile can be purchased in either a polished or honed finish. The tile in the floor above looks more like honed to me, as it has a subtle sheen.

Lovely floor! Could you give me an idea of how much more it costs to do this sort of pattern versus just tile - Could you give me an idea of how much more it costs to do this sort of pattern versus just travertine/tile? Is it much more labor intensive to install? Thank you! »
Really like the floor. I was wondering how the wood and tile was joined. - I'm concerned about the wood expanding and contracting. We live in the adirondack mountains where the temperature and humidity fluctuates alot. Also did you have to use a special width and depth board to accomodate the tile size? I really like the design and would love to make it work in our house. Thanks in advance for your reply. »
Buckner Construction Inc. we did a floor similar to this and we installed the wood and then in-between the wood we added a tile underlayment that brought the height up so we could add thin set and then the tile to be flush.
The use of caulk is a very good idea.
