A common area like a hallway or stairwell is a good opportunity to have windows like these open to 2 floors. Where we don't want to waste space in the rooms with 2 story ceilings and windows we are open to the idea in common areas like stairs and halls.

I love this hallway. The huge windows create a light filled space with a stunning view. Long hallways are often a waste of space. Here, the long hallway is a chance to stop and enjoy the numerous views of the outdoors as well as the interior. I am also sure that there have been and will be numerous occasions of running and sliding across that beautiful wood floor in warm wool socks.
