Once narrow & dark, the Entry now welcomes you into a light-filled open floor plan. The glass stair railing allows light to bathe the entry and creates a welcoming sparkle. A comprehensive Feng-Shui analysis and recommendation was done in the beginning of the Design Process.
One of the things I can't wait to change in my own split-level is the dated wrought-iron railing that separates the middle and lower floors. I've been scratching my head over how to update it, and I love this approach. The glass panels preserve the same openness as the railing, but look sleek and sophisticated.
Combination of wood frame and translucent glass frames the stairwell. Glass panels have some textures (visual interest and allow light into stairwell space. Simple, clean expression of materials using glass and wood. I would reduce the scale of the supports to make horizontal and vertical framing more delicate.
