Teenager: Two beds (perfect for sleepovers) and a giant map (to plot out future trips) make this a great room for boy and girl teens. It works, too, for younger kids.

This is a great room. I basically like everything here- the big wall map, the furniture, the cute lamp and the fact that the kids can sleep so close to each other and whisper at night...

When room allows, parallel twin beds flanking a single night-stand table gives a room a clean symmetry, and can serve, especially with same-sexed siblings, as the room's layout for years. The shared lamp, ability to chat facing each other, the same nighttime vantage point, create an aesthetic closeness while still giving each child their own space.

Several of my childhood friends went to college at the Merchant Marine Academy - a school that sends its students out to sea on commercial vessels for six months during their sophomore and junior years. My friends' parents each hung a huge world map in their basements, charting their sons' travels with pushpins and adding photos along the way. In the end, the maps looked like something out of a Jason Bourne movie - they were really cool capsules of their travels.

That's what this wall-sized map reminds me of. I love the idea of using this in a guest room, too. It'll give visitors hours of in-room fun and a great conversation starter.

This classic houzz photo shows how the low head- and footboards keeps the horizontal lines in the room low and simple--a visual cleanliness helped by the interesting fabric yet simple structure (one pillow etc) of the bedding. The detail is left to the fabulous wallpaper map, which could easily be translated into a sophisticated damaske, say, for a sophisticated version.
