Jamie Herzlinger Hello, yes you should line the log box. You just need a simple either zinc or galvanized metal liner. it will make the log box much easier.

luuppi I was thinking just like XOJY, wow! How many pieces and how thick? I am thinking of same sized area, a bit wider but not as high... and what's the name of the granite?
Tracy I'd like a little more food and wine on the table for it to lure me to dinner! I too love the wall. It looks as though it could be wood? Or a stained metal of sorts? Do you know if this is granite? I am totally fascinated and it looks amazing. Pray, do tell?
The creative display of fire and firewood (and the entire wall) provide the visual interest for this simple room, and keeps the hearth more avant-garde than back-woodsman.
The thing that is terrific about this fireplace is that it has a built-in area for you to keep the logs for the fire. This really adds to the charm of the fireplace. The logs themselves form a sort of structural artwork in the wall. And the fact that you can actually see the wood that will be used to create the fire makes you feel so much more in touch with the natural elements than you would be if the wood was hidden away until it was used.
I can't help but add this stunning marble chimney to any ideabook that has to do with fireplaces. It's just so warm and beautiful. It's such an elegant material, but its colors work so well with the rustic chic style of the room.
Family gathering spot. It is clear that this home is meant for a large family, and the main gathering spot is this table near the fireplace and wall of windows. Benches in this setting allow for a certain intimacy that chairs are otherwise unable to provide. I envision a large family gathered around the dinner table sharing stories of years past.
Picnic tables are great with or without tablecloths. This indoor uncovered version feels warm, rustic and inviting, but an outdoor version might benefit from a tablecloth, if only to conceal potential outdoor grimy-ness.
An accommodating nook alleviates the need for fireplace accessories and keeps the focus on the dining room furnishings, the formidable stone hearth, and the breathtaking mountain view.
Dinner fireside. Autumn means more guests over for dinner as the fire roars and the cider warms. Accommodate more people by switching out dining chairs for benches and add just the right touch of understated elegance with burnt orange tableware.
The Night Before• Set the table if you're serving family style or set up the buffet.• Put labeled serving dishes and implements on trivets on the table or buffet.• Tidy up around the house.• Prep any dishes you can to ease the workload for the next day.• Put anything you made in advance and froze in the fridge to thaw.
