hilltop1155 What color is the fireplace? I think I would line it with metal. The ideal in my mind would be a fabricated insert that is completely sealed (edges welded) and powdercoated to match the fireplace. Bear in mind that firewood is messy and can bring in insects; because of that I wouldn't choose a built-in woodbox but it's a personal preference.
Custom metal bookshelves line the wall of the second floor family room. A hidden wall of white storage cabinets with concealed hardware is just visible on the back wall.
While many of the pieces of furniture in the home were custom designed, McCafferty and Stern also incorporated pieces the family owned and loved — although many of these were reupholstered to fit with the new space. By combining these products with a few new classic mid-century items, Stern and McCafferty were able to accomplish a look that's as eclectic and bold as its residents.
This room has a vibe that's cozy and inviting. Wool rugs are really nice to have in winter because they add both visual and physical warmth to a space.
An accent chair. Feel like the space could use a pop of color or a hint of pizzazz? Try an accent chair. Think of a color that will really stand out against your current scheme, and try to scout something that falls in that shade. Again, don’t forget to look at the flea market! You could find an incredible piece at a bargain.

Sheepskin rugs. The organic feel of wool in its more natural state always makes a room feel cozy and comfortable. Don't worry about the long fibers — wool resists crushing.

Here is a nice, streamlined fireplace surround of a metallic silver. Note the asymmetrical placement of the monochromatic artwork above it... which really works here.
I love this eclectic mid-century-modern furnished room! Colour is provided by all the book spines... and of course, the eye-popping fuschia colour on the womb chair. What a nice vignette, with the Eero Saarinen tulip side table, the womb chair, and the great texture from the flokati rug underfoot.
