Your choice of materials will also affect the cost. Concrete or synthetic decking, for example, would be on the lower end of the price range, and fine hardwoods used on an interior ramp on the higher end. By working with your architect or designer, you should be able to choose a material that fits the style of your space and your budget.

A ramp is also helpful for aging-in-place design, and it’s more fun (and safer) than stairs for young children. With proper planning, a ramp can fit into indoor and outdoor spaces just as well as a traditional staircase, providing visual interest, function and fun

Steel Windows and Doors USA says: This is a very informative article! As a professional in the thermally broken steel window and door market, every once in a while we get a request to provide a door that is easy accessed via ramp for wheel chair purposes. A great solution to this a lift and slide pocket door with flush mount track. We often find that bifold and french doors are too much of a hassle for wheelchair personnel. Whether the operable door opens in or out, the client will have the unlock the door, back up, exit/enter the home, turn around and roll forward to close the door. All of this is avoided with a lift and slide door. I attached some pictures of jobs we did using similar lift and slide doors and screen systems. Hope this helps! Cheers, SWD
