What kind of casters are used on the movable island to keep hardwood floors from being damaged? - I am remodeling my kitchen. I had a wheels put on the island so that it would be moveable. The wheels are black rubber according to the cabinet builder but they feel very hard. They have already left marks on the floor. This is a heavy island. Is there a solution? Softer wheels? Help! »
yeahmorgan Here ya go, gwilson - this is a 4 inch swivel caster with brake, as I assumed you wanted a smaller overall height. It has a 300 pound capacity per caster, so it's fairly beefy. It's a non-marking gray polyurethane wheel with a tread that doesn't flat spot, so it's pretty much best case scenario for your island.
The absence of the vaunted "kitchen triangle" - I see that the appliances and sink are laid out all along the same wall. There is no triangle. Is this the kiss of death or not such a big deal? I am considering the same thing. »
Alice Thanks for the search pointer. I didn't think "galley" applied to my kitchen because it is so large, but now that you mention it, it does only have one usable wall (the second being all window, the third being an opening to the rest of the main floor and the fourth being too far away) so it makes sense to search "galley" for straight line appliance layouts. Now that I know it doesn't HAVE to be a triangle, thanks to all you who have replied to my post...
tessapang Thank you! I have been there so many times to purchase kitchen equipment but didn't realize they also sell custom countertops. Thanks again - your work is great!
tessapang Hi - we have decided to install SS countertops and an integrated backsplash. Bowery Restaurant Supply has provided an estimate to fabricate but they do not come and take measurements or template anything out. My contractor does not feel as comfortable with this scenario because typically any fabricator will at least measure, template and fabricate. Bowery Restaurant Supply recommended their own installer who will come, measure, template and install. Is this how you've worked with them before inthe past? If you have someone you'd recommend as well, I'd be happy to look into alternatives. Thanks again for all of your help!
In this modern kitchen, you have a long utility cart that doubles as a kitchen island and a dining table. That's a way to make space work for you — here the kiddos can hang out while dinner is being prepared.Tip: If you want your kitchen island cart double as a table where the family can sit, consider an open cart rather than a solid island. That way you have space to put your legs and can sit more comfortably.
13. The Knicker Stool: What I love about this Blu Dot stool is that it has contemporary lines that easily transition between traditional and modern spaces. The way it's upholstered makes it looks like it's wearing a cozy sweater.
There's nothing wrong with wheeling in an island with a little contrast, though. This one is sort of a happy medium. While it isn't an exact match to the fixed cabinets, it repeats the materials used in the rest of the kitchen, making it a well-integrated addition. The supplementary work surface is further utilized by adding counter stools for extra seating. For a party, roll the island out to where the action is and make it the bar with additional seating to keep guests from gathering in the kitchen.
