Designed with homeowner & interior designer Melissa Guerrero. Melissa designed the shelves & chose the materials & colors. I designed the desk area with cubbies, along with other functional aspects of this kitchen.
Just as the categories in our lives overlap, multifunction rooms like these can be the most used and most loved spaces in a house. I adore the slim shelf for books or a closed laptop just below the countertop.
Grown-up color. This is clearly a functional kitchen - the busy shelves and laptop make it clear. But the exotic mustard color on the walls also gives it a ton of sophistication. It's not obnoxious, but it is bold and very different - the owners of this house took a chance, and it paid off.
The main challenge that people face in their twenties in terms of home design is a lack of space. You may be sharing space with roommates or simply living in a tiny apartment. The trick that you have to learn is how to make the most of your space. Creating multi-functional spaces is a great idea in your twenties. This spot here serves as a breakfast nook, a computer workstation and a place to have cocktails with friends who visit.

Shannon - interesting idea for the "glass cantilevered" area to the right of ovens. Still have landing space in form of narrow cabinet, then raise for computers like this?
this is great storage, could be used elsewhere in kitchen

I think this bar design is brilliant. The storage space could make the difference between all out mess and the clean aesthetic seen in the picture...even with kids, busy lives, etc.
