Victorian House Renovation - Built 1896

The door between kitchen and dining room was taken out to increase the connection between volumes.

This connection was further increased by creating an opening on this separating wall. A dumb waiter was inserted to act as storage and period feature.
On the kitchen side it blends with the Victorian tile pattern replicas while on the dining room side it matches the reclaimed shabby chic furniture.
The period aesthetic is thus continuous between the volumes.

Dumbwaiter? - " A dumb waiter was inserted to act as storage and period feature." Is it functional, or a dummy just for ambiance?

Its both functional and for ambiance. It is designed to fulfil a storage function for plates and crockery. It is conveniently positioned in a new opening in the wall separating kitchen and dining room. The storage is accessible from both sides.
The connection between kitchen and dining room also allows conversation between the two rooms. Aesthetically it has been designed to reflect the shabby chic furniture in the dining room. The dumb waiter is a newly crafted period feature inserted to blend with a reclaimed furniture in the dining room. The lights add to the ambiance in both kitchen and dining room
