The unique design challenge in this early 20th century Georgian Colonial was the complete disconnect of the kitchen to the rest of the home. In order to enter the kitchen, you were required to walk through a formal space. The homeowners wanted to connect the kitchen and garage through an informal area, which resulted in building an addition off the rear of the garage. This new space integrated a laundry room, mudroom and informal entry into the re-designed kitchen. Additionally, 25” was taken out of the oversized formal dining room and added to the kitchen. This gave the extra room necessary to make significant changes to the layout and traffic pattern in the kitchen.
By creating a large furniture style island to comfortably seat 3, possibilities were opened elsewhere on exterior walls. A spacious hearth was created to incorporate a 48” commercial range in the existing nook area. The space gained from the dining room allowed for a fully integrated refrigerator and microwave drawer. This created an “L” for prep and clean up with room for a small wine bar and pantry storage.
Many specialty items were used to create a warm beauty in this new room. Custom cabinetry with inset doors and a hand painted, glazed finish paired well with the gorgeous 3 ½” thick cherry island top. The granite was special ordered from Italy to coordinate with the hand made tile backsplash and limestone surrounding the stone hearth.

MainStreet Design Build Hi there,
Thank you for your inquiry! The local (Michigan) name of this granite is "Seafoam Green." However, granite color names do sometimes change by region and this granite really looks nothing like seafoam green. The slabs we chose were really unique and had amazing taupe, grey and brown in the background.
Good luck with yoru project!

This is 2 1/4" solid oak flooring. The finish is a combination of stains, in order to match the existing floor of this 90 year old home.
Stain mixture: 1-part Fruitwood & 1 1/4 -part Golden Brown
Please remember, when mixing stains, every floor turns out a bit different based on the jobsite conditions (ie. age of wood, sanding, etc.)

Actually it is much darker than fruitwood. It is a combination in order to match the existing floor of this 90 year old home.

MainStreet Design Build Thank you for your inquiry! The floor is 2 1/4" standard oak flooring. It runs directly into the adjacent dining room and therefore, needed to match the rest of the home.

7. Wine fridges. Compact wine fridges make it possible to keep your wine at exactly the right temperature and handy for your parties. If you don't have a wine cellar, a wine fridge mounted in your lower cabinets is the next best thing.
Different color scheme... what do you think of this? Cream colored cabinets and the gray tile has a definite green tint to it. Definitely a bit more traditional French country style.
like gently patterned backsplash and the size of those tiles. Nice darker counter with the light cabinets. I would like the floor to be tile and lighter than this.
