Gesso Floor Method: - Janie, I am swooning over these stunning floors. Tell me about this methodology for Gesso finished floors. So you basically thin out the gesso which is typically thick with water? Can I get more information on the method? Then how do you protect them once they have been gessoed? We bought a small house with old pine paneling everywhere. We are taking if off in some areas and recycling it to go on ceilings or serve as wainscoting here and there...I like this gesso. Its different and fresh. »
Tub dimensions and space requirements - Hello Janie, what size is this tub and what type of space requirements are needed with a free standing tub: how far from a side wall or shower and from back wall? Loved your bath at the showhouse! Kind Regards, Sarah »
Janie K. Hirsch, ASID Hi Sarah - This overall size of the tub is 68" long x 31" wide x 20" deep. As for the space requirements around the tub, that would depend on your local building codes. A contractor would be able to guide you on that. Glad you enjoyed the show house. I was very proud of the master bath that I designed. Look for it in the September issue of Atlanta Homes & Lifestyles and some time next year in Traditional Home. Thank you!
Beautiful What color and brand of paint is used for body and legs? - I have an antique tub that I have removed the paint from and I would like to paint it the colors show in the photo. Please advise manufacturer and color of paints used. For the body and the silver color for the legs. Thanks »
Janie K. Hirsch, ASID The outside of the tub is painted Benjamin Moore Iron Mountain #2134-30. The legs were ordered in this Brushed Nickel finish and not painted.
Janie K. Hirsch, ASID In another posting I listed the actual numbers of the casing. I am not in my office this week to be able to find it again.

One of my favorite choices for a chair is a dressmaker's cut, sometimes referred to as a drop skirt. It creates a casual but tailored vibe. This detail works great with linen and cotton. Notice the contrasting band on the bottom edge. Pretty!
