I would like to know more on.. - I really Love the room and it's work and would like to know who makes the room design and can you please tell me place where this room design exist.? »
hollyklien This is mind blowing, I love this. I've always wanted a high end custom home. I've got a lot of great ideas and drawing of what I want, I guess we'll see how it goes. http://www.roadsend.ca/
Tray ceiling to match - Love this just got new bedding that would look great with this wall color. I have a double tray ceiling and having a hard time planning colors. I have white silver and glass in the room. Help »
Michael Abrams Limited This room is finished in a silk wall covering. I would suggest using a white on your tray ceiling and looking through Benjamin Moores colors for a blue gray that would provide you a similar look to this wall covering. Check out the Historic Coolection as well as the Affinty Collection.
Love this!! Need your expert advice- - are you ok with putting in 2 steps up to a master bedroom so you can gain 14 inches of height for family room beneath ? OR do you believe in all bedrooms on one level? »
Michael Abrams Limited I actually think having the master a couple steps away is no problem and creates interest as long as you do not compromise on the room's ceiling height. I also think you will be pleased with higher ceilings in your family room. Best of luck and send a me a photo.
Back Wall - I love the ideas of the mirrors above the nightstands- would this look work if there were windows on that wall? I have a window on both sides of my night stands. So if I hung the mirror like you have them here, they would be adjacent to the window. Would that make the wall look to busy? »
TCM Interiors I love how the curtains go from floor to ceiling! A great design statement that most people omit because they think they have to place them right above the top of the window - Beautiful design!
coraleejoan If designers want wood lice to corrupt all fabric in their displays they are welcome to be inspired by this design. The Trade only exists as People utilize their skills - perhaps they need to reassess their role. Of course if their role is only display they might get some advice from museum professionals who could advice on the usage of organic materials in displays. I trust the display has a limited time. Just go ahead and display wood that you do not want to use near fabric. I will continue to burn wood in my bedroom fireplace and enjoy the ambiance. I keep my expensive linens in an expensive mahogany linen press and regularly change my bed linen.
Simply put - a fireplace stacked FULL of wood looks ridiculous.
Oh and yes it is elegant and serene - if a little cold.
exdro2 I lost my guide book so I'm afraid that I don't know anymore. But it was Dream Home 2011 @ Merchandise Mart. Hope that helps. You can also contact Michael Abrams Limited or Design Center at The Merchandise Mart.
Michael Abrams Limited Thank you. These chairs are from Barbara Barry and available from Henredon Furniture. I would simply refer to them as lounge chairs.
What are your guidelines to mixing the different colored woods and the different colored metals in a room? - You have mixed light and dark woods and light and dark metals in this room and it's beautiful. It works. »
Michael Abrams Limited Thank you, framing art is one of my favorite things. It can make or break a piece of art work. I use Artist Frame Service in Chicago for all my framing. It takes time to review the options and select just the right frame. You want the frame to enhance the art work but not over power it.
michael-love your work very talented! Every time I stop at a room, you have done it :) - my question is if you can answer it. I have ugly lament floors in a room and want to know if I can paint over dark pergo? You live in Chicago where I live and love your work!!!!! need any assistants :) ? Or maybe someone to get your coffee lol....... kelly »
Michael Abrams Limited Kelly - that sure provided me a smile. I truly do not know if you can paint Pergo floors. I would be very concerned that it may adhere properly. That said, go online and I am sure you can find out. Send me some pictures when you are finished.
What is the thing that goes at the end of the bed called? - i know its a bench, but is there a more specific name for the kind the goes at the end of a bed? »
Michael Abrams Limited The bed is from Bright and called the Van Bed by Douglas Levine. It is a queen and upholstered in silk from Larsen. The color is a soft silvery cream color. It is for sale as a floor sample.
Brenda Bills Hi Michael! Love this room! I have already started the master bedroom with this gray color on the walls, with the adjoining master bath in Black, Bright White, and a muted shade of gray. I just love the fabric you used on the Roman Shades, would you be so kind as to share the name and the coding for the fabric? Love, Love your work!
wall paint - I have a light grey bedroom suit and at the moment the wall is painted in lilac, can you please advice me as to what would be better suited as
I want to change the color of the wall ? Thank you »
Floor lamp please? - This entire room is perfection! You've been so gracious with information. Would you mind telling me about the floor lamp? Thanks so much! »
Michael Abrams Limited sorry - this room was created for a showhouse in 2011 in Chicago's Merchandise Mart. There is no floor plan of a home. There were only (2) photographs of this room.
Can you tell me some info on the fireplace mantel. I'd love to do this in my bedroom. Thank you. - Can you tell me some info on the fireplace mantel. I'd love to do this in my bedroom. Thank you. »
Michael Abrams Limited The bed came from the Bright Showroom in Chicago and I had selected a silk fabric from Larsen. The bed designer is Doug Levine and the bed is called the Van Bed.
Beautiful window treatments. Are the shades custom, what fabric was used and what is the style of shade. - I'm redecorating my bedroom. First step are the windows. Your design is exactly what I'm looking for. Very elegantly soft for a bedroom. »
Michael Abrams Limited Thank you very much. The roman shades are a sheer patterned fabric from Cowtan & Tout and made in a waterfall style for this project.
Brenda Bills Hi Michael,
Love, love this room! It show a very elegant, soft, inviting place to relax! I know that you have previously stated, that the fabric for the shades is from Larsen, but I have not been able to find it. Could you please identify the name, and style number please?
Love your work!
Thanks!
Passion of Persia It is a very elegant rug. Since the rug is not the focus, I personally cant help. We have lots of elegant rugs. Let me know if we can help. stay in touch by liking us www.facebook.com/passionofpersiarugrepair
Michael, I need help with paint. - I have been obsessed with this room since seeing it in chicago! finally I get to design on a dime it, since we purchased a new home. I would love your recommendation for paint colors to closely match the walls in the bedroom, and a metallic to closely match the wonderful wall covering in the dressing area. My room has the same layout and I'm going to copy copy copy!!!!! I LOVE your work! AMAZING! »
MariVi Creations Michael, I love this room so much I replicated the same image in my room. I have to send you pictures but I am stuck with the curtains. Didn't know if to go with sort of what you have or plantation shutters. My headboard and mirrors are from zgallerie.com and so were my lamps. My chandelier from Candice Olson. What do you think? Would plantation shutters take away from the elegance of the room?
marisaattanasi what are the colors of the bed linens. You seem to have mixed a couple of colors not quite sure what they are..... thanks! Very inspirational!
RE: Walls and Trim - This room is absolutely breaktaken - just stunning - Michael, I have noticed this question has been asked several times - although it has not been answered personelly as of yet by YOU - Please tell me what color paint would you use on the walls if you had no other choice - BUT to paint - and would you use Benjamin Moore Pashmina AF -100 on celling and trim Thank You and Kindest regards, Marlene »
Mackey's MPI Inc. No disrespect, but I think Marlene is asking what colors would be closest to the wallpaper color in your picture. The 3 you gave her were great colors, but they all read very blue not grey as in the picture you show.
What color do you feel would be closest to the wallpaper color in your picture here.
Dear Mr. Abrams, this is such a lovely room! I was curious if the mirror was also on other side of the bed? - I was wanting a similar look in my master bedroom and wondered if it was symmetrical or different on the other side of the bed? Thank you! »
bertitaz Amazing room! Tagging along on this question, where can I see more pictures of the entire room? I would like to recreate this room on my master bedroom. Thanks!
shreyar Would you happen to have the name of the wallcovering or the number? I can't find it on their website?https://product.donghia.com/browse.cfm?collection=textiles&category=Wallcoverings&pagenumber=6
Rug color - I am going to buy a shag rug for the room. I was wondering if I should go with an off-white or white. I noticed the lamp shades are white, but there are other items in the room that appear off-white (ex: blanket at the end of the bed). So far, I have basically been able to keep with the tones in the room. Thanks. »
where can I buy the bed frame. - Im looking for calif king size in this bed frame. also what is the fabric & color of the material on bed frame. how many inches is the wings off the headboard? »
divorcee123 Well, the room is really beginning to take shape! I LOVE IT! I have a budget, so I can never have the room look like the lovely project of Michael Abrams.
Here is my update: The grommet drapes from JCP look fantastic!!! The mirrored tables from Target look great, as I mentioned before, but I have since added the entry mirrored table. Unbelievable!
I went with a white "fur" rug from home decorators.com. It is amazing!!! I bought the "faux sheepskin rug in white". You will want to buy a rug pad for this. I haven't yet, but the guests that sleep in the room don't seem to notice. EVERYONE who has slept in this room is in love with it and I haven't even added any art. Any ideas for what to do above the fireplace?
I bought beautiful wall lamps from www.lampsplus. Believe me, I searched every lighting website out there. They are stunning and reasonable.
I bought textured wall paper, enough to do the wall with the fireplace. I will paint it the same gray as the walls, but add a bit of glaze for sheen.
So, still much to do, the roman shades, art and decorations. Would love any comments, positive or negative!
Danette
what is that piece? - the little tray (?) on the floor with the cup and saucer? Looks like a tray or a table or a foot rest - it is very cute but what is it? »
Michael Abrams Limited The tray on the ottoman is approx. 24" square and was sourced via Baker, Knapp & Tubbs in Chicago. It retails for approximately $2,400 and is made of mother of pearl.
Victoria Larsen Stencils It's important to first decide if your gray is a cool gray or warm gray. In my opinion, as long as you stay within the cool/warm realm of colors, your accent color would coordinate beautifully. For instance, in a cool gray setting, choose cool accent colors.
jacks66 Can you let me know the colours and material of the curtains and the colours on the wall and where all the bedlinen comes from please Tanks Jackie
Anne DeCocco Looks like a 1 1/4" rod with inside mounts, so no finials. That way the beautiful drapes can go all the way to the wall. Such a restful space!
Michael, this room is absolutely beautiful, but no one asked about the wall sconces. Who makes them. Thank you. or if you can recommend something very like them. »
Dear Michael
Is it ok to use a different baseboard/trim colour in the bedrrom that is different from the rest of the house. This is my inspiration for our bedroom but this room uses Pashmina for trim which will be different from the rest of the house. Is that ok in your eyes as a designer? »
Dear Mr. Abrams,
I noticed you said the bed is upholstered by Larsen fabrics Could you please share the colour used as well as the colour used for the drapes, please. I'm assuming the drape fabric is also from Larson. Thank you in advance and btw, this is a beautiful room :) »
divorcee123 I know this sounds a bit crazy, but I think it would work. I found some textured paintable wallpaper online. There are horizontal papers easily found online. If you use a eggshell gray/silver paint I think you will get as close to the wallpaper covering as you can.
I noticed you mentioned the bed being from Bright. Could you please specify if this is a designer or store. I have not had luck finding the bed through searching Bright furniture on Google. I would appreicate your help »
shelton143 Hi Michael,
I did search for the bed fabric from Larsen (Solistice-silver) and you are correct that it has been disontinued. I am unable to even find a sample to use to find a similar colour/fabrick. Are you able to suggest a similar fabric. I saw several images of this room and the fabric looks grey insome and cream in others. I would really appreciate your help as I'm in toronto but have fallen in love with tis bedroom
I have noticed this question has been asked a few times, although it has not been answered as of yet. What color paint did you use on the walls or is it a wall paper? »
I think every other question has been asked about this pretty room(!)....Here is one last one. Can you tell us where the rug is from? I love the subtle pattern and tonal colors.
Thank You! »
dwright548 I saw a similar chandelier on the Candice Olsen lighting site…but it was a little more rounded at the bottom instead of being kind of flat in this photo. Good luck
This is a stunning room. Do you recall what the master bathroom looked like? Do you think a master bathroom with java cabinets and crema marfil marble would be good with this as the master bedroom?
Thanks »
hey Michael, I see that the wallcoverings are from Weitzner, is it available for everyone? if not, do you know where people can purchase something similar? »
This room is stunning! Can anyone tell me where I may be able to source these chairs from? I keep finding versions of similar woodframes, but nothing is coming close to this one.
Thanks in advance! »
Trim, Celling and the biggest thanks ever - Michael - You are a pure class act - now that said - do I still use Benjamin Moore Pashmina AF -100 for the trim and celling - again thanks - your cool
Marlene »
6. While this bedroom is definitely dramatic, the gray tones tend to give it a soothing, rather than cold, feel. Readers were drawn to the carefully chosen color palette, as well as the convenient sitting area in front of the fireplace. Various forms of lighting — from sconces, to floor lamps, to the chandelier — provide comfortable levels of light for any time of day.
4. Play with texture. Choose your bed linens, draperies, carpet, paint and upholstery in a monochromatic palette, but choose different textures. This creates a boutique hotel feel.
This bedroom is high glamour all the way, but sticking to a palette of gray and silver keeps it from looking like a starlet's dressing room. Even a macho man could sleep here.
Electronic devices are said to produce negative energy via electromagnetic fields. Ideally, you should minimize your exposure to the myriad devices our homes now seem to have. The bedroom is a haven for rest, and uninterrupted sleep is paramount to achieving a successful and productive life. Try a couple of easy ideas to help reduce the flow of negative energy. Keep your alarm clock at least 3 feet away from your bed. If you are not going to banish your television from your bedroom, enclose it inside a cabinet and shut the doors when you are sleeping. The blue-gray used with abundance in this luxurious bedroom strongly encourages relaxation.
