another look @ 'Charity' Oregon grape, blooms in winter, purple berries persist many months, deer resistant, tolerates sandy soil and clay, tho prefers well-drained soil, zone 7 - 9, drought tolerant, mature= 10 ft tall, 5 ft wide, full sun to dappled shade
