In response to your question regarding sunlight, yes, by roofing in any pergola structure you do limit the amount of natural light that is allowed in to your home. I hope this helps!

The double joists as well as the spacing of the shade lath were decisions that we made with the help of our clients. The reason was both aesthetic and for increased shade. There is a portion of the structure that is dried-in (waterproof) in which we used standing seam metal in place of the shade lath. Hope this helps!

Thinking about the pergola, we like the 2 directions of this pergola, going in 2 dimensions as opposed to a flat pergola. Like that it takes up a good amount of the house. Don't like stone wall ss it encloses us-want it to open up out to the yard.
