We have gotten many questions about the stairs: They were custom designed and built in place by the builder - and are not available commercially. The entry doors were also custom made.

Love the staircase - newel especially! - Can you tell me the size of the balusters used here and also the stair depth. I am being told I need to use 3 balusters for a 10' stair width per code? I love your staircase here and it doesn't have three per stair so I am wondering about the stair depth and baluster size. Thank you!! »
Andy Pike Angela,
The codes for baluster spacing are different from state to state. In California, the code spacing on a stair is 4 3/8" maximum between and 4" on a balcony or landing. In some cases you can use only 2 balusters per tread depending on width of the baluster and the run of your stairs. Keep in mind that even if the bottom of a baluster is 2" wide, if the top is tapered, the measurement between will be take there. While I did not work on the project pictured above, based on my experience, it looks like the spacing is at least at the 4 3/8" spacing or might be more. Not all photos you see on Houzz comply with every code from every jurisdiction.
wall color/ floor color - i LOVE the color of the walls with the floor... can you PLEASE tell me what the colors are? Also, where is this house located?
Thank you »
Summit Stairs & Millwork I design custom newels and stair parts for our company and other stair companies. I have received pictures from customers and replicated the design as close as possible from it. Those are actually close to the same style I have designed for another local stair company. I use AutoCAD to do the design and have trusted craftsmen that can turn them on their lathes. Feel free to contact us through our contact info here on Houzz. Good luck on your project!
Turnings Unlimited In the process of custom making 2 starter newels as pictured and 6 for landings as well as 6 half posts. Be glad to do more! 937-588-4050 or www.turningsunlimited.com
kbanewhouse Interesting. Thank you so much. I had heard just one negative comment from a bamboo owner, but I really don't know too many who have it. And, I hear you on the ease of maintenance. In the back of my mind with these black stairs, I just see dust bunnies! I appreciate the advice.
wall and trim color - Hi,
I absolutely love the wall color... can you please tell me if it is the same as the trim and if it is matt, semi-gloss, etc?
Thank you! »
