blackcChair rail - I'm looking todo this in my dining room. Is it painted or stained or did you buy it black? I do not have casing around my doorways, how do I finish the ends.
Thank you! »
Garrett's vision was to blend the structure of the house with her clients' two very different styles. In the entryway, a modern but classic David Hicks pattern lines the walls, while a glitzy pendant from Arteriors adds warmth to the space.
Perhaps you've seen this hexagonal patterned wallpaper around. The first time I saw it was in a Jonathan Adler-designed powder room (which bore a striking resemblance to an original Hicks bathroom). It packs a graphic punch and makes a great first impression in an entryway. This entry has a distinctive eclectic style, with its Moroccan gold-leafed light fixture and Nelson Bench.

I can't stress enough the importance of reading the manufacturer's instructions when installing new floors. You may like to read — as evidenced by your reading a dry article about floors — but that doesn't mean your installer does. If you have your doubts, look up the instructions online before install day. Tip: Some manufacturers recommend you orient the flooring according to the dominant light source in the room. In this picture the front door casts a flood of light on the floor. This oak floor was sanded and finished onsite, so the direction the boards run in looks good. However, some prefinished floors look better if the boards run with the light.
Don't be afraid of patterned wallpaper, especially in a hallway. You don't spend enough time there to tire of it, and it perks you up as you move along.
