Need help with hinges and pulls - We will have a rail system between the 2 upper cabinets. If I do a s/s rail can I use darker hinges and pulls? If so what would you recommend? The cabinets are a creamy white and the appliances are s/s. »
Leeanne H. not sure what a rail system is, but i'm also wondering about what finishes go together. I love the rubbed bronze also, and have somewhat commited to using it on two large overhead pendant lights that hang over an island that separates the kitchen and "sitting" room. I'll include a picture of them here. I haven't purchased new appliances yet, but most likely will get SS, because my cabinets are not being replaced and it will be difficult to get cabinets to match for covering them. I have seen where the refrigerator is covered in a vintage wood cabinet, that looks beautiful, but I'm sure very costly, so I don't think that would be an option for me. I know pottery barn has a very rich looking cabinet hardware that is both rubbed bronze, and wood, but not sure if that would be over doing it. My home is taking on a "coastal" look, which I love. Floors are a porcelain, terricotta. The sink is white, and will be replaced either with SS or another white. If I have SS appliances, can I go with the rubbed bronze? And then do I need to have a rubbed bronze faucet, or can I keep my brushed nickle moen, or would that also have to be bronze. If you could.. could you give me some combinations that would be appropriate. thanks SO much
LOVE The island. - Are the island cabinets painted or are they a box color and if so would love to know either way and am looking to do an island very similar to this and LOVE IT!!! »
Teri Turan I'm not sure what a box color is but . . . they are Holiday Kitchens Cyprus. If you go to their website you can see a truer version of the color. This photo shows a rather skewed view of the color. In person - gorgeous!
Would love to know where to the ceiling fan - I searched on the suggested lumens site, but did not see this fan. I also searched on the Products page on here, but no luck. This is exactly the right size and style I need. »
tlw0930 I had never noticed one. Ours are in two extra bedrooms. On the highest speed there is the sound of the air movement. Only on the lowest speed is there a very slight hum.
harrisonlt I purchased my fan from Lowes. com The fan is aged bronze but it almost looks black but it does have some red or copper looking highlights around edges. I attached 2 photos.
Should I do a white kitchen with light counters or dark gray? I want to use quarts. The kitchen is on the north/ west side of the house. The flooring that I want to use is alterna reverse luxury vinyl tile in classico travertine cameo brown. I love classic design and I want a classic kitchen. I hope you can help. »
TanCalGal I've been thinking about your kitchen & backsplash. Here's a nice backsplash done in diagonal tiles. Diagonal tiles are more expensive to put in, but hey look really really nice and help take away from the hum-drum squareness of cabinets, appliances, floors in the kitchen. This homeowner has an accent tile here and there. You could have a very light diagonal and accent with a gray, maybe one of the grays in the counter surfacing. Crisp Architects Here is another idea, do you like the looks of black hinges and door pulls? These look nice * the wrought iton ceiling lamp ties it in 2008 Parade of Homes house Here are more black knobs Kitchen 1 Subway tiles always look sharp as a back splash Kitchen 2 More subway tiles for backsplach and these seem to have a gray grout which is another interesting option Diva These are silver knobs and they look nice with stainless steel appliances (I forget what appliances you chose?) Also the back splash has a silver-gray look to tie in with the appliances Tineke triggs This has the diagonal tiles, again with very small accent tiles, and that looks nice. I wouldn't do the fancy inserts. The knobs are bronze and I do not think that would work in your kitchen, but look at how they antique-glazed the cabinets and that's a thought for your cabinets Ripley Hill - New England Dream Home
I know that all modern ovens have a clock and a timer, but there is nothing like a large clock that you can see from anywhere in the kitchen. There are some fantastic replica railway clocks around, or scour those car-boot sales (if you live in the U.K., like me) and vintage shops. This clock is a gorgeous feature — it's the first thing I noticed when I saw this lovely kitchen.
