sarahandgarth Hi! The stovetop is 36 inches and four burners. The island is 5' 6" by 2' 6". And I guess the countertop is even a little wider, since it hangs over. Maybe an extra 5 inches. We thought briefly about doing a 40 inch stovetop, but then we thought we'd lose too much prep space on the other side, so we're happy with the decision to use the smaller one. Have fun doing your kitchen!

sarahandgarth Hi allmarblehead. These floors are indeed character grade hickory -- 4 inch planks -- with a Minwax stain in Special Walnut.

Anne DeCocco I would think it's semi-gloss. Don't see a lot of shine but want it to be easy to keep clean.

keito Thanks for the quick response. I decided to go with green cabinets and soapstone counters after seeing your photos. Our house is over 100 years old so I wanted the kitchen to blend with the rest of the house. But I'd like it to be energy efficient as well. LED lights usually look too bright white, but yours seem warmer. Are they CREE 2700K? How about under the cabinets? LED strips or pucks?

sarahandgarth Under cabinets we have LED strips. I am not sure of the type of LEDs in the cans...but I do find them warmer than most. Some we have on dimmers which helps too.

You will love the green with soapstone. I too wanted something that would make sense with my house (1920s) and soapstone was definitely the best choice. It scratches and all but that just gives it the lived-in patina that I want. Plus oiling it makes most scratches invisible, and deeper ones you can use sandpaper on. And I love being able to put anything on it straight from the oven or stove.

Portia Peeples Regarding the soapstone; I am loving the hand done edge finish. One finish I like more is called "leathered" finish. Probably a nice way to describe the process of abusing a perfectly good slab of stone.
