Ronique Gibson Indirect lighting like this is also called cove lighting. Meaning there is probably a cove, or 'pocket' where the lighting fixture sits and then it emits light from the space around it.
Most likely a ladder would have to be used to access the cove, and often times an access panel is under the drywall soffit to access the lights as well.
Mark English Architects, AIA Exactly so. The lamps are small fluor. bulbs that overlap so that there are no "dark" areas. The lights have been in place 2-1/2 years, not one has burned out yet.
