seattlecosmo,
Thank you for your question! The paper towel dispense is located in the front of an actual drawer- just without the drawer front. The drawer still pulls out like a normal drawer (in fact, the homeowners cleverly store extra paper towel rolls in the back of the drawer.) Behind the paper towel roll and rod you see in the picture is a "back" which acts as the divider between the dispenser area and the drawer storage area behind it. To change the paper towel roll, the metal rod is lifted straight up when the drawer is pulled out. The metal rod slides up in down in grooves on the sides of the drawers that are not visible in this picture. Difficult to explain in words but hopefully this has helped! If you'd like to see a picture without the paper towel roll and the metal rod, we'd be happy to get those and post those for you as well. Let us know!
Thank you!
