I think I'll probably gravitate towards this photo in every ideabook, no matter the topic. This house has such a great mix of old and new, from the Samuel Mockbee-designed addition added to an old dairy barn, to the modern rockers under a tin roof. I just adore it!
This is a former dairy barn in my neighborhood with a Samuel Mockbee designed addition. I love that they owner has added modern fiberglass Eames rockers to the front porch.
This is my neighbor Lilly's house. This front part was originally a dairy barn, the addition on the back left was designed by Samuel Mockbee. I think this is one of the most alluring little front porches I've ever seen in my life, and I can't imagine the roof in any other material but tin.
My neighbor's house was originally a dairy barn, it has a Samuel Mockbee-designed modern addition to the left, and a tin roofed front porch that protects bright red Eames rockers.
I have to play favorites here. This is a former small barn in my neighborhood in Atlanta and is one of my all-time favorite houses. To the left is a two-story addition designed by Samuel "Sambo" Mockbee. The front porch with its metal roof and simple lines creates a perfect transition between the vernacular structure and the contemporary addition. The cheerful Eames rockers bring midcentury flair to the combination. Side note: Mockbee's Rural Studio is still going strong today.
4. GeorgiaThis is my favorite house in my neighborhood (Virginia-Highland in Atlanta). The original house is a former dairy barn, and the addition to the left was designed by Samuel Mockbee, aka Sambo, the late founder of Rural Studio. I blogged about the house years ago, and the lovely owner saw the post and invited me over for a ginger beer and a tour.
I know I'm not the only one who has crushes on and stalks other people's houses in person. Houzz's own Becky Harris lives near this beauty and admired it in an article online, and through that met the owner!
