You'll see a seam in the back of the cooktop and that is a downdraft vent that rises when in use. Pretty nifty! Here is an example of one of the many manufacturers of downdraft vents:

I love the raised bar. Any issues with wood near cooktop? - I am considering installing a raised walnut bar next to the cooktop. Is there anything that I need to consider? I was told that I might have trouble using wood. This looks exactly like what I want to do. »
