Eclectic design is here to stay. 2010 will bring playfulness to interiors, focusing less on taking everything so seriously. Mixing patterns and furniture styles is a great start!
Tori Mellott's New York apartment has been an inspiration to me for years. Her effortless use of grape, plum and lilac with mauve undertones against an otherwise all black and white backdrop has been tacked up on my inspiration board since 2008...along with every issue of Domino that was ever printed. Saddie face :(
When you have a small place, you need to create surfaces that don't take up a lot of room. Instead of getting one large coffee table, get two mini coffee tables like these. They can be separate, made into end tables or even stored away depending on how much space you need at any given time.
On the other hand, the eclectic living room is a great place for a purple sofa. Admittedly, there are a lot of interesting things competing for your attention here. That's why the light shade of purple works better than a bold color would. The sofa remains an interesting part of the decor because of its unusual shape and great pillows.
