angela428 The Shade COMPANY has some wonderful material for solar shades that are metallicsCand white and you can see through them yet they cut the sun and would work lovely with your description.
I would suggest you have someone put some heavy urethane over the white paint or put down white tile froms like wood, white floors will leave track marks and wear down where you walk. It happens quickly in your environment or get some of the beautiful hand painted bamboo carpets from Pottery Barn in blues reds yellows'ets. Or grey white etc, but your hard work should be
Protected.

Bill Fry Construction - Wm. H. Fry Const. Co. There are special coatings that can be put on tile - but they seem to wind up looking coated. I haven't seen them used recently, maybe they've gotten better. Here's an example of one product I found on the web: http://www.armorpoxy.com/bath-and-kitchen/

If you replace the tile, do consider that the old tile likely contains lead, so make sure you hire a lead-safe contractor. Here's a transformed pink-tile bathroom built by Bill Fry that Becky wrote about on houzz:

duaner123 Traditional walls can be fished. Concrete walls are a challenge. You can look at a product like Evo Wall that is the mount and a furniture solution in one or you can hollow out base board and crown molding.

Brilliant! Lighting & Design Just in case you haven't already tried this... Bing/Google 'Large (or 'Large Scale') Drum Pendant' to find a variety of sizes & colors available.

Tyler McEwan There are SOOO many factors to consider. Colours (dark or light) / materials (reflective or absorbant) in the room. How bright do you want or need the room (everyone is different for preferences or eye needs). Light output of the bulbs (lumens), and the colour they put out (warm or cool white). And type of lighting: pots, chandeliers, stands, etc. If you are working with designers, ask each one as while a kitchen designer may know for a kitchen, they may not for a den. Good luck. I just put 38 Phillips LED pots into my kitchen & dining room on 6 different circuits, all with dimmers. Love it!

McKenna Designs I have painted several kitchens for clients. I do agree with what the painter told you but sometimes you just don't have the budget to do it the best way. I have used Benjamin Moore's Advance Paint. It works really well. Its roughly $55 per gallon and worth it. It self levels as you paint to help eliminate brush strokes.I don't like the advance primer cause it dries to quickly. I live in a dry climate so that might be why. Its important to sand, prime, and sand again between coats for a smooth finish. You can also spray the doors but make sure you use a sprayer that you don't have to dilute the paint. The cheap sprayers won't work for this. Make sure to keep extra paint for touchups! It will chip in high traffic areas. I charge about $110 per cabinet to give you an idea of cost. You may want to consider doing if yourself.

Kat Davis Hi Libby, Wonderful piece by the way. You know it is preference, some people like it framed others don't. To me it depends on the thickness of the sides of the painting and if they are painted themselves. The thinner sided canvas pieces (under an inche thick) I usually would frame. :) Kat

Need help combining black and white large print in living room - Hi! We recently purchased a beautiful, very large black and white photography print. It hangs in our living room, which is primarily in the brown family. Our walls are a very light taupe, sofas are tan chenille, two brown leather recliners. We also have a beautiful orientation rug with red, navy, aqua, gold and orange. Help! Is there a way to combine all of these to make it look more cohesive? Should I bring in other black and white prints to make it seem less random? »

hoffycom Having the same dilemma. Here is what I am considering.

Putting wood planks on the entire ceiling would be my first choice, but the climate in south jersey will not support it. Hope these pics help.......

09daydreamer09 You can just place a false wall on it to the ceiling with plain timber. Paint it the same colour as the walls. That's what my cabinet maker has just done with mine. I'll just get a plasterer in to continue the cornices on it

cbdillon I don't think I posed the question correctly.... I have a great lamp, I recently had my ceiling repaired and now that I'm rehanging my lamp I'm wondering of there is a more polished way to drape the cord over a foot so the lamp is centred over the table. I used to have a very ugly hook and a zip tie. I looked into moving the electrical when I got my ceiling done but it was going to add time and cost to the unexpected ceiling repair.

If you can, use open shelves for decorative items to soften the space and have your work materials behind closed doors. A purchased desk will cost you less than a custom desk.
