CARVE OUT YOUR WORKSPACE. In a small dwelling, your lifestyle needs may not be blatantly met. You must create. You must carve out for yourself spaces to meet your needs. A friend once had Home Depot custom cut a plywood slab to fit perfectly over her washer and dryer (located in the kitchen, yes) for a smooth extra work space. Get a similar custom-cut slab and turn a small closet into a small office (just did this myself--more on that soon).

This tiny workspace butts upto a window, which allows just a little distraction instead of staring at a wall. Some 1x1's and a sturdy board, and voila! Instand office!

This could easily be done in any space - even a rental. Spackling can fill any holes left behind, but this would be very cute in a little apartment!!
What if the wall that inspires you isn't a wall at all? If you can choose a home office design that gives you an entire wall of windows (even if it's a small space) then you may find that all the inspiration that you need will filter in to your from outside.
