Can you provide details on the plywood countertop? - I will have side by sides in my kitchen and want to lay a countertop over them. Coriam/Quartz probably too heavy, so what is an inexpensive but attractive countertop, that can work well in a kitchen to rest atop the two machines? I haven't chosen kitchen countertops yet. »
lefty47 HI -- Corian and Quartz counters are installed over unites all the time , but a cheaper option is a post form counter. Ikea has counter tops for very resonable cost and any hardware store has lengths of counter tops. I like the ones at Ikea because they have modern counters in several finishes even a stainless steel , where as the post form ones at the hardware store have the rounded over edge which can look a little old fashioned. All the appliance stores have a topper that goes with your brand of unites , but you won't like it and they cost more than their worth.
carli8020 Thank you! What do you mean by "installed over unites"? Do they need specific support from side walls? We have the water lines to access in the back of the machine, and I was wondering if a countertop could just rest on top of the machines, not too heavy or too light that it shifts.
This laundry room, from the Young house in Richmond, is full of natural light, thanks to the adjacent sunroom. This is a good reminder that the best laundry rooms will be conveniently located within the house. While it's nice to tuck the laundry out of the way, nobody wants to slink down dusty cellar steps with a giant basket of dirty clothes.
In this small home, a short hallway is the perfect place for the washer and dryer. An inexpensive DIY plywood countertop provides a spot to drop dirty clothes and laundry baskets. Locating the laundry nook near the sunroom and backyard makes hanging clothes out to dry a breeze.
MANDATORY REQUIREMENT: Move washer/dryer to adjacent to bathroom in the Lounge and convert the current washer/dryer room to a mud room with cubbies and children's mud room
