hwdoughty You may well be right. I just looked at another photo of this area from a different perspective and it does look more like about 16' long from the front of the bench at the far end to the short wall on the far right. Add the space for the benches and it's more like 9' wide by 18' long.

this is more rugged looking than appropriate for top of deck, but concept is same as what we are planning. Substitute tile for stone, and the front below the grill would be tile not wood (access to grill workings would be from the side, through the adjacent cabinet)
