When we moved in the fireplace was a glaring dark red brick. I was going for a lighter look. Took some convincing but husband agreed...after multiple coats it looked much less heavy. He actually likes it. Homeowner.

wolnekram The paint is Benjamine Moore ,Buttermilk. When we bought the house, all colors were dark, made worse by few and small windows. The fireplace was dark red brick. All the woodwork dark brown. All walls ceilings, mantle and brick are buttermilk. All woodwork white. It made such a difference.

Curious, did you you latex paint? Any primer? Was there any prep work to clean the brick?
