Annette Clark while i designed i heard that a lot: where can I buy that island? Well, there are little premade islands to buy, but that's generally not what clients have in mind when they ask where they can buy an island. This and other custom islands are designed by a seasoned kitchen designer and/or cabinet maker. These are generally pre made in seperate pieces that the contractor has installed together when he installs the rest of the kitchen cabinets. For instance, the end decorative pieces are likely two custom made "posts" (they look as though to mimic old upright piano legs, very cool). I can't see it all here, but they likely are on either end of 3 cabinets put together between them-with drawers and doors on the opposite side we cannot see. Also what makes this piece are the decorative panels under the counter where a seated person's legs are in front of. A decorative toe base board moulding was installed all the way around the island to make it look as one large cohesive piece and finishes it off so nicely at the floor. The countertop is a very nice custom made piece- likely real marble or granite. The cabient finish looks totally custom...I don't know if it's stain or paint...looks a grayish, very very nice. i was going to get to mention a bit how prefab cabinets may be put together to look like a higher end custom island, but I need a rest at the moment. why not add a pic of your kitchen? Would love to see the space you're working with.
